February 2024 PTO General Meeting

Big Ticket Items Ideas for 2024-2025 by T. Baker
Google interest form will be sent to staff for ideas and narrowed to top 3 and additional
voting will be held to select top items that are able to be purchased.
K. Marquez is concerned that we would be hoarding money and wants to use the money.
M. Hendricks mentioned the opening of the new schools and the impact on this school.
C. Andrews asked about flower sales being provided for the 5th grade celebration. M.
Litven discussed the 2 opportunities to sell flowers. Hendricks asked about providing
additional funds for the 5th grade celebration still. K. Marquez said they need approximately $12,000.
Events Report by M. Angel
Sweetheart Dance review. C. Andrews asked if Pre K is invited since they are not
reflected as being invited on the posts for the dance. K. Marquez recommended contacting the teacher and letting her know to share. 86 tickets sold so far and has been open for about 2 weeks.Premier Entertainment will be the DJ and may add a photo booth in funding permits. Snacks will be provided for free along with a quiet area if needed. M. Hendricks said the church is happy to help set up if we let them know in advance. Olenick mentioned that a band camp is being run that day until 2:00 PM. M. Angle will speak with the principal of the middle school regarding the double booking as we booked first and the band camp changed dates after. Band Camp will be in the cafeteria. We will check about getting our money back as their error. We are still looking for volunteers to assist. M. Litven asked about volunteers and we have received 1. We will look to offer volunteer hours for middle and high school students.
Silent Auction will be April 26. Details are still being worked on at this time.
ShamGrams will happen in March. There will be 3 options the same as the past grams, 1 of which will not be a food item. February 28 announced, March 8 orders will close, and delivery is March 13.
Otter Store Update by K. Baker
M. Angle mentioned a BMX or petting zoo as the end of year reward. K. Marques mentioned that not all students have the opportunity to earn enough Otter Bucks and asked about a curve. C. Andrews recommended an Otter Grab Bag to get rid of overages.
Unfinished Business
M. Angle mentioned another movie night and a big event at the end of the year will be
coming.
M. Litven mentioned removing events that we may not be doing since there are new
board members in charge of the event committee. The first event is the talent show which will be removed. The second event is the paint night that will be done away with. The AR Party will stay as it has already been promised by the teacher. March 6 PTO Game Night has been canceled as it was on the calendar and the board was unaware. We still have many opportunities to add spirit nights as we do not have any additional on the calendar. K. Marquez will reach out to Raising Canes. Reeves informed us that there was a tracking system that is virtual so we will not collect Otter Bucks. Reeves also mentioned how the store was run the first year and it worked well.
New Business
M. Angle reviewed an appreciation committee is being formed. K. Marquez mentioned that teachers do not want trinkets and would prefer monetary items. May 6-10 is staff appreciation. PTO is providing a breakfast and lunch during that time and Megan will get with Ms. Lyle to determine dates. Olenick mentioned there is an extended Wednesday that day and they would appreciate that as being a special meal that day.
K. Baker went over the idea of a new grant application for teachers and classes.
Announcements
Vacancies announced by M. Litven. All seats are 1 year term so all members would need
to be re-elected. Nominations are open as of now and will run through the March meeting. Board members can be in the same position for 2 consecutive years and then could continue to be on the board in a different position.
C. Andrews asked about the book fair and if there will be another. M. Litven represented the book fair committee and let her know there is another tentative book fair coming up on April 15-26 with Literati per Mr. Hendricks.
R. Larsen said the middle school is available for the dance and band camp will be out of the cafeteria before noon. Dr. Sanchez is who confirmed this information and he confirmed with the band director.
M. Litven invited everyone to our next meeting on March 14 at 6:00PM.
